West Cork Wedding DJs Paudie Walsh at the amazing Blairs Cove Restaurant in Durrus. Blairs Cove Restaurant is located on the inlet of Dunmanus Bay, Durrus in West Cork. The restaurant is also situated on the Wild Atlantic Way which starts further up the coast in Kinsale. The area is not heavily used by tourists and it really offers the “home away from the madness of the outside world”. This venue is renowned for its food and the “help yourself” dessert display on the piano in the restaurant. Even if you are not getting married it is worth a visit, just for the food and scenery.
I played a full night wedding DJ set for this wedding in August. It was a beautiful day and the sun was shining all evening. Everyone was in a great mood. Once the dinner service had ended and some tables had been moved I setup in front of the old fire used to grill the meat for the wedding. The room layout makes for a great night with tables situated all around the dance floor. The bar isn’t too far away either! Right from the first dance people were and having fun. Speaking with the couple prior the date they had asked to keep the music more in the 60’s/70’s and 80’s genre. It worked a treat. Everyone enjoyed the music and mixed set. After a small break for teas/coffees and evening snacks I started back again and took them right through to 2am. After the break I kept it to the couples wishes but made it a small bit more up tempo. A lot of the 80’s party music in the video below was taken from the second half of the nights entertainment. I also included Jive/Rock n Roll numbers from the 50’s and 60’s. Paolo Nutini’s Pencil Full of lead had everyone dancing. That is a great floor filler at weddings. I took care of the first dance here right through to the end of the night. This venue is ideal for a DJ only set. To add a band will take up a lot more space and not leave a lot of room for dancing. I was able to setup very quickly (20 mins) and have background music playing before the first dance. It also meant that I was able to tailor the music to the couples wishes, which was great as I had a huge set of 80’s. Along with that I could mix in similar genres that kept the floor full for the night. It is also worth taking into consideration the volume levels with the music. This was a nice relaxed atmosphere with about 50 guests. With this I was able to tone down the volume of the music to match. It is far better than having a big band come in and blast the place. Unfortunately there is no volume button on a trumpet, saxophone or drums.
