Waterford Wedding DJ – Paudie Walsh @ The Park Hotel, Dungarvan

Waterford Wedding DJ Paudie Walsh recently played a fantastic after band Wedding DJ set at the Dungarvan Park Hotel. The Dungarvan Park Hotel is in the harbor town of Dungarvan over looking the Colligan river in the heart of County Waterford. I have to say on the night I visited I arrived early and had some food in the bar. The venue is about 1h 30min drive for me so I always stay on the side of caution and give myself plenty of time to travel. The hotel was absolutely buzzing and there was a great atmosphere all around the place. The food I had in the bar was really nice and although very busy the service was good.

Waterford Wedding DJ – The Timeline:

As mentioned above, I arrived down early to the venue so I had plenty of time. I loaded the equipment into the hallway just outside the room. The layout of the hotel is great and it allows me to get all the sound and light to the room door while the meal is on. But, it doesn’t block any space and isn’t in the way. Once the meal is over and tables are cleared from the dance floor I could load the equipment into the function room and setup. In the Dungarvan Park there is a stage area for the band to setup (usually where the wedding cake is). I setup alongside the stage on the opposite side to the bar. This means that both me and the band are completely separate and don’t interfere with each other. It also means that as soon as the band finish and I start they can take their equipment out without me causing any obstruction. I am setup before the first dance and ready to start as soon as the band are done. There is no down time, no wait or break in the music. Once the band strike their last note I start. It’s brilliant! I don’t give the guests any chance to leave the dance floor. It was the same on this particular night.

Waterford Wedding DJ – The Music:

The wedding band for this wedding were The Pearly Whites Band from Tipperary. Brilliant 10 piece band with a full brass section. Really full and great sound from the band. They played a great mix of music and covered a lot of genres. The wedding guests were local to Dungarvan as well as Kerry. All in all, it was a great mix. Having set up early I had a chance to see the band play and judge the set from there. I noticed a good young crowd at the wedding and decided to keep the dance floor full with more up to date chart, 90’s as well as a few crowd pleasing cheesy numbers. It all went down really well. For the time of night I am playing I try to keep the music up tempo rather than slowing it down too much. At 1am, it is well and truly party time. After a few drinks people love the cheesy numbers. For some weddings think Coppers and 1998. It’s mad fun and everyone really enjoys themselves!

The Ending:

There is always a lot of debate about how to finish the night. There are the cliche songs – Don’t Stop Believing, New York New York, which seem to be the songs people think of for the end of the night. Depending on the couples wishes I will try to finish on a real up beat song and leave the guests wanting more rather than bringing the tempo down. Good songs to end the night are something like Shut Up & Dance or Mr. Brightside. Real high energy and great songs. It has everyone up and singing along. The other way to finish is to play a few sing along songs such as Oasis – Don’t Look Back in Anger or for the Liverpool supporters – Never Walk Alone (which surprisingly gets requested quiet a lot!). For this wedding I chose the up tempo Killers song Mr. Brightside to finish. As you can see from the video below it had everyone up and singing along. Everyone was in good spirit as I finished and no doubt the party went on to the small hours of the night.
